Halloween Birthday Cake

I’ve been crazy busy the last few weeks so I didn’t get a chance to post my most recent cake from 2 weeks ago – a Halloween-themed cake for a 16th birthday.

This one was so much fun to make! The cake inside was a dark chocolate mud cake layered with white and dark chocolate ganache and crushed Oreos.

How to Make Ice Cream Cone Oreo Cake Pops

How adorable are these little guys! When I first saw these (I don’t even remember where, probably on a baking blog of some sort) I knew I had to try them. I had also been meaning to try the no-bake Oreo cake pops recipe for ages so I decided to join the two baking adventures together and make Ice Cream Cone Oreo Cake Pops 🙂

Traditional Vanilla Biscuits

Why am I referring to these as ‘traditional’ you might ask? Well they’re a bit of a tradition in my family. Ever since I was little my Mum made these every Christmas and my sister and I would cut out all the different shapes with the cookie cutters, which my mum inherited from her parents, who used to make these at Christmas as well. Just the smell of these biscuits in the oven immediately makes me think of Christmas! The old cookie cutters are still my absolute favourite ones too. Even though both Mum and I have bought other newer ones since, we still go back to the old ones at Christmas.

So it’s quite a special recipe that I’ll be sharing with you today 🙂

A Lovely Afternoon Tea

This weekend I did a lot of baking because I was hosting a very girly afternoon tea at my house for a few of my lovely friends 🙂 Afternoon tea is just about my most favourite thing to host! Mini sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, macarons, biscuits, cupcakes… so many delicious treats can be served, plus it’s a good excuse to get my tea cup collection out!

Making Macarons #2

You may remember my first go at making macarons from a little while back (see the post here). Since then I’ve made them a few more times, in a few different flavours and they’ve mostly turned out pretty well, with a couple exceptions. But over the weekend I tried a different recipe which I had always been a bit scared of trying, as it involves more steps and a thermometer, and generally sounds complicated. But over the weekend I finally faced my fear and gave it a go and was so happy with the results! It turns out that not only was nowhere near as complicated as it sounded but it was also much more reliable too! If you’ve tried the other method and weren’t too happy with the results, or maybe you were but would like to try something different, definitely give this one a go 🙂
