How To Make Pretty Valentine’s Day Biscuits and Cupcakes

Embossed Heart Biscuit

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I know this post is a little late but I was busy celebrating 🙂

I love Valentine’s Day – some people may call it an artificial ‘Hallmark’ holiday but for me it’s a perfect excuse to celebrate all the love in my life, buy and/or make a cutesy gift for my husband, wear red heels to work, go out to a nice dinner and share a decadent dessert, go for a romantic weekend away… (and yes I did all those things this year!) and of course bake and decorate Valentine’s Day themed treats.

Aston Martin DB9 Birthday Cake

Aston Martin DB9 Cake

Sunday last week was my gorgeous husband’s 28th birthday and I wanted to make this birthday cake the best one yet (see the previous birthday cakes I’ve made for him here and here). He’s a big fan of the Aston Martin DB9 car so I decided that’s what I would make. It turned out to be a bit more of a challenge than I expected but still turned out pretty well for a first attempt – he was pretty wrapped with it anyway and that’s all that counts 🙂

Happy New Year!

Well we are well into January now, but seeing as I haven’t posted yet this year first of all I wanted to wish everyone a very happy New Year!

2012 was a pretty big year for me – for one thing I got married to my wonderful man in June! But amongst other amazing things that happened, I also discovered two new hobbies – cake decorating and blogging 🙂

Here are some highlights of my first year of being a blogger and cake decorator:

My very first fondant decorated cake that made it onto this blog was for my lovely husband’s (though he wasn’t my husband yet at the time) birthday last year:

Halloween Birthday Cake

I’ve been crazy busy the last few weeks so I didn’t get a chance to post my most recent cake from 2 weeks ago – a Halloween-themed cake for a 16th birthday.

This one was so much fun to make! The cake inside was a dark chocolate mud cake layered with white and dark chocolate ganache and crushed Oreos.

How to Make Ice Cream Cone Oreo Cake Pops

How adorable are these little guys! When I first saw these (I don’t even remember where, probably on a baking blog of some sort) I knew I had to try them. I had also been meaning to try the no-bake Oreo cake pops recipe for ages so I decided to join the two baking adventures together and make Ice Cream Cone Oreo Cake Pops 🙂

Traditional Vanilla Biscuits

Why am I referring to these as ‘traditional’ you might ask? Well they’re a bit of a tradition in my family. Ever since I was little my Mum made these every Christmas and my sister and I would cut out all the different shapes with the cookie cutters, which my mum inherited from her parents, who used to make these at Christmas as well. Just the smell of these biscuits in the oven immediately makes me think of Christmas! The old cookie cutters are still my absolute favourite ones too. Even though both Mum and I have bought other newer ones since, we still go back to the old ones at Christmas.

So it’s quite a special recipe that I’ll be sharing with you today 🙂
